Training for Tuesday on a Wednesday!

Hey guys ... Its Wednesday already and tomorrow is a new year. Holy what???

So yesterday was the last Tuesday of the month and Training for Tuesday day ... but work and life kept my brain too busy to blog so Wednesday it is!! It's time for a running update!!

I've been running but mostly at the gym and this is so mainly because of convenience. I have made extreme progress and no longer get tired after one minute!!! That is cause for a celebration in my book. I'm actually able to run a good 15 minutes without breaking stride. Now, I'll be honest and say I did take a break for over a week thanks to the holidays so I may eat these words when I try to run on Friday my first day back and my first for the year. We'll see!

On the race front .... The race I was supposed to run with my bestie in January is still on but my bestie received word that she has to go to Peru for a year. While that means that I have Peru on my travel agenda now (yay me), it also means that I'm unsure if I'll run the race. I've never run one and I don't want to do it alone. Not just yet. But ... I'll update you guys if I do decide to. There are other races coming up and other people to run with so all is not lost!

That also doesn't mean I will stop running though. Not by a long shot! I love it and it's part of my life now. Most importantly it helps clear my head from the stress of day to day life! In 2015 I have some major goals to revamp my life and fitness. I'm not one for resolution, as I've said before, doable goals I can do!

Christmas and the weekend!

And just like that Christmas is over! I mean that was quick ...

I took the week off work last week and spent it at home with my parents. It was lovely being pampered for those few days. Christmas was quiet for us but a lot better than anticipated. The good food and being with my people was just what the doctor ordered. I didn't take a lot of pics though and those that I did take ... well they weren't taken with the fancy cam I bought before I went to Australia, they taken with my grainy Iphone 4s ... aka they suck.

Oh and it wouldn't be Christmas in my country without some black cake/rum cake for dessert ...

A different Christmas.

** I wrote this post on Saturday while in a not so great mood. When I re-read it I decided not to post it. My mood has greatly improved since then but I decided to publish because this is real life! For those who don't know my sister passed away from a kidney disease earlier this year.

Christmas was my sister's favourite holiday. It was our entire family's favourite holiday actually. I have so many memories of Christmas with my tight knit family dating back to my childhood years. Watching Christmas movies, Christmas concerts at church (where she and I would sing), mummy's baking, the ham, the spread, the presents ... my entire family happily sitting around the Christmas table. We get giddy for Christmas. Well we used to get giddy anyway.

I have no idea what Christmas day will look like this year and if I am honest I have avoided all things Christmas the entire season. This blog has seen not one Christmas post. I have bought only my immediate family presents with the exception of a mandatory gift exchange at work. I have instructed everyone around me to buy me nothing. I want no presents. My eyebrows remain unwaxed because I refuse to go to the mall amidst all the cheery shoppers to get to my salon to. I have completely avoided the season.

Not a Christmas song has been played in my car. I have exclusively listened to mp3's in my car since Christmas music started to play on the radio.

Not a Christmas movie has been watched. In fact I have barely turned on my TV in recent weeks because Christmas commercials are just depressing. I catch my shows later.

The magic number is Four.

It's Monday and its only three more days till Christmas. Crazy!!

I've seen this post around literally everywhere. There is a saying in my country "monkey see, monkey do" ... in other words I'm going to do this because everyone has done it too. Queen of originality over here. Also it looked super fun and let's face it I like to talk about myself. It's also no secret that I'm a fan of listing posts ... so lets go:

Four names that people call me other than my real name:
1. Kay
2. Krys
3. Krysypoogy - reserved for my sister only
4. Kryssy / Krissy / Kreeseey - or any variation in pronounciation PLEASE STOP THIS MADNESS!

Four jobs I've had:
1. Legal intern
2. Attorney
3. Tutor at a University
4. "Summer" Camp counsellor

Four movies I've watched more than once:

I could honestly list soooo many movies for this category ...

1. Think like a man
2. Lord of the Rings
3. Mrs. Doubtfire (I know every word)

For the love of glasses!

Ever since I was a little kid I wanted glasses ... and braces. No joke. I would see all these kids in school with them and instead of being all "no way jose" I was all "I want glaaaassssesss" to my parents. Basically I thought everyone with glasses were cool ...

#swagger

I kid you not, one time I faked not being able to see properly! I believe I said I saw cloudy-ness in the mornings haha. I was so persistent that my mum had to actually take me to the optometrist to have me checked out and basically prove that I had (and still do have) 20/20 vision. Anyway, essentially I love specs and that's probably why I am in shades 24/7.

So when Firmoo contacted me I was stoked. They offered me to choose a pair of their awesome glasses to review. I chose this pair of cuties:

Australia: A very Sydney wedding

I am still recapping Australia. You guys probably want to shoot me. BUT this might be one of my favourite posts on Oz so please keep reading. One of the reasons for me going to Australia for a month (second to seeing my beautiful sister and her fan) was for my cousin's wedding. My uncle's daughter got married in a wedding nothing short of fantabulous.

First of all, her love story in itself was fantastic and she put it on her wedding invitation. I took a pic of my sister's invitation because I could not find my own. Such a cute story!

a portion of the invite ...

On to the wedding. Like I said, it was fantastic and we ALL had a blast!

Getting ready and the church ...
My mum and I along with the bride's dad (my mum's brother) and two of my mums cousins stayed in a beautiful Airbnb house. We got ready there and headed to the church.

Ten tips for a beginner runner!

Hi guys!!! Can I tell you how much I still miss confessions posts on a Wednesday? Also a big Hallelujah for me finishing my exam yesterday and taking the stitches out of my mouth from my dental surgery. Clearly yesterday was a good day!!!

Since we're no longer confessing, I thought I'd share some tips for beginner runners like myself. Now ... I aint no expert on running. Like the title says, I am myself a beginner. Also, I am well aware that you can find a million tips for running online. Still, there are some things that I was told personally by runners and some things I wasn't told and learned on my own that I thought I'd compile into a list and throw it out there.

ten tips for a beginner runner

1. Start - Like I said in this post ... In order to be great you have to start. If you want to run, don't just talk about it. Actually do it! I also think this is a pretty apt saying:

That time I became a fashion blogger for a day ...

Hey guys, Happy Monday!! My weekend was quiet and spent reading for an exam I have tomorrow. The final exam of my masters!! I do have my thesis left. I submitted my proposal for that last week but the final submission is next year and then I'm done. Since blogger does not have emojis (get on that blogger), I went ahead and found the appropriate emoji pic for the way I feel about this being my last bloody exam ...

Anyway, today I'm dipping my toe into fashion blogging. Just a toe. Some time ago I was contacted by Eshakti  to do a review for them and I said yes. Can I tell you how much respect I have for fashion bloggers? Literally so much respect because this has got to be the one post I have dreaded pressing publish for the most! No joke.

Eshakti is a very blogger friendly company and several bloggers I know have already reviewed for them. If I'm honest, I have never read a bad review and so I knew and still know that the company is genuinely a good one. But with so many hits there was bound to be a miss. And I guess that miss was me? Well you'll tell me!

Tooth Surgery: The wuss chronicles ...

Well it's Thursday (technically Wednesday night as I type this) and I have not read a blog since Tuesday. I have been laid up in bed after having one. Yup just one wisdom tooth surgically extracted.

PS. Please note that the above photo was only inserted so that my crazy swollen mug would not be the picture that appears next to this post in your bloglovin feeds. You guys didnt need that image before you clicked the post. You are welcome.

Back to the surgery ... I was originally supposed to extract both wisdom teeth on the left and return to extract both on the right. When I got to the dentist with my mama, he checked me out and told me that the bottom wisdom teeth would both be really tedious surgically extractions and if left there is a high risk for infection. He also told me it was my choice, but he advised that I wait to extract the top because they would be easier to extract if they grew out more. I should mention that my top wisdom teeth, while there is no space for them were growing straight but the bottom were growing horizontally and causing all kinds of issues below the gum. Because I was chosing not to be sedated (I should have chosen this option and gotten all out), I chose to extract the more serious bottom tooth now and the next one at at later date.

Sushi and other weekend things!

It's been a while since I came here and recapped my weekend. I might be rusty but here goes.

On both Thursday and Friday I went out for sushi. Thursday I went with my bestie Alicia after work and on Friday night I went with my other bestie Nads and a mutual friend of ours. Man I needed me a good sushi fix after last week and the crap storm that was work. I mean ... sushi fixes everything amiright? And wine. Sushi and wine. I was too busy eating, so I only have a pic from Thursday's sushi-ness.

Friday I actually took a half day off work ... to do work ... go figure. While I was home however, I decided to bake cookies. My best male friend / partner in crime's birthday is Tuesday and last week I told him I would bake him cookies. Not from scratch of course. Because ... no. Instead I baked this:

Hey its ok - Volume 3

Whoop whoop its Wednesday, which means its two days away from being Friday ... and the weekend. Excuse me while I rejoice in that fact

I've done two posts like this before, it's patterned after a regular series in Glamour magazine called 'Hey its ok'. Again, the concept ain't mine! I have always loved that series (just like the confessions in Cosmo) and so here I am today with another one.

... to wake up with a swollen gum and have to rush to the dentist only to be told you HAVE to surgically extract not one but TWO wisdom teeth next Tuesday. Months ago I mentioned on the blog that I had been putting off the extraction for months. So yes that literally makes it months upon months that I have been putting this off. But now that my gums are swollen and the top left wisdom tooth is attempting to push through the SIDE of my gum .... its time. #LeSigh

... to be totally freaked out because you never had a surgical anything before ... #FixItJesus

... to ride a curb and scratch your new 18 inch rims on your car that you spent thousands of dollars on. Yup, totally ok. Except it really is not ok! At all!

Book Review # 6 - Anna and the French Kiss

It's Tuesday and I'm battling a wicked flu. It started with a sore throat last week and now its full blown! Ugh. Anyway on to book things ...

First things first. Kari and I have moved the book club reviews to the first Tuesday of every month. Kari announced the book for the month on her blog but I unfortunately did not. Not to worry, Ill announce the book this time and be right back on track.

Australia: Tour of Newcastle

Hey guys its Monday!! Hope everyone's weekend was ok. Most of you are probably just getting over your Thanksgiving food comas... Man I wish that was me! Anyhoosle ... I have about 3 Aussie posts left so I thought I'd skip a weekend recap post (it was a pretty tame weekend anyway) and post an Australia recap today and the other two later this week because .... these are a lot of recaps and I have other stuff lined up!

Although my sis took my mum and I all around Newcastle, we decided to take an official tour because the week after this one we were headed to Sydney for a bit. My mum had been to Newcastle several times but had never taken the official tour. It was a fun girls day and we had an absolute blast!

The actual city of Newcastle is a small but beautiful old coal mining city. A good portion of it was actually destroyed in a 1989 earthquake. It's since been rebuilt and is now a mixture of old and new, but the old definitely shines through. The city is stunning and the skies were a bit mesmerizing.

Ill be honest, because we were in a tour bus most of my photos were blurry so most of the ones Im posting are of my mum posing! haha!

Sexy accents ... and pogo sticks.

Hey guys, I hope your Thanksgiving went well! I cannot wait to read about it. It's Black Friday ... and the sales online are insane! Since yesterday was uneventful for me I thought I'd share an article that had me (and my friends) in stitches.

Recently, CNN ranked the Trinidadian accent (my accent) the 11th sexiest/hottest accent in the world (although it is #1 on the Facebook page where people vote). So I'm gonna go ahead and assume that my sexy got turned up a notch with the release of this list! Go CNN!

Anyway, I was listening to a morning radio show, which is how I came to find out in the first place, and they were laughing about CNN'S description of our accent. So you know I just had to check it out. Guys ... I kid you not, this is the description that the world renowned news source CNN gave of my accent:

Thankful.

Where I'm from there is no Thanksgiving and I think that's a real shame.

I believe that even when life throws you curveballs there is always something that you can be thankful for. Right now, I'm ever thankful for my family, friends, my job, the lessons I've learned in this life, this blog, you guys and so much more. So today I am just popping in to wish you all, my readers and friends, who come here every day and make my blog a special place to be, a wonderful day. Eat, drink (for me too please!) and be merry! Remember to be thankful for those around you as they may not always be there. Share a laugh with your family and hold them close. Make memories with those around you, because that's what life is about.

Australia: Hunter Valley Gardens and Hunter Valley Zoo

It's Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving for you folks! Since Confessions are no longer with us *tear*, Ill take this Wednesday to do another Australia recap. I have to tell you, I have a lot more pictures than I thought. I'm talking at least three more posts, so bear with me.

Anyhoo, when we left off I was at my uncle's house in the Hunter Valley. Well my sister and her family picked my mum and I up and our next stop was the Hunter Valley Gardens and Hunter Valley Zoo before heading back to Newcastle. First of all let me tell you, I looked cute on this day ... I really tried. BUT, Australia and its bipolar weather had other plans for my cuteness. It was Spring in Australia so although we left my uncles house in chilly weather, by the end of the day it was scorching, my cardigan came off and I was ten shades darker.

It was still beautiful though, Ill let the pictures do the talking! (PS. my nice camera's battery died halfway through this day .. so half these photos are good ole' iPhone)

Hunter Valley Gardens

The Hunter Valley Gardens were beautiful and there were several shops on the property ...

Training for Tuesday!

Hey guys, the week is flying by and for you folk with Thanksgiving this week I'm sure you're happy. I wish that were me honestly ... if only for the day off. But no such luck over here.

Anyway, it's the last Tuesday of the month so I'm here to talk about my training. You know know for that 5k I'm supposed to be running in January? Well about that .... *crickets*

The story goes something like this. In Australia, I was pumped. I spent a whole month with my sister and her husband both of whom run half and full marathons (my brother in law actually has a marathon next week)! Naturally while I was there I was all like this:

All the runs ...

Lets forward to the present day shall we? I got back home to  HUGE raise in salary (yay me) and a f*@&* tonne more work. Slap my masters on to that, the fact that I tutor at a university, actually try to maintain an active social life ... and for good measure lets throw in the fact that November pretty much sucked dirty balls (excusez mon fran├žais) ... and well lets just say I didn't get much running done. In fact what I did get was 5 pounds and a whole lot of this:

Influenster: Venus #ItsNotMe VoxBox

** I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing and review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Well look who's posting on the blog three days in a row. And on a Saturday no less... Times are a changing folks. Anyway, its for good reason, and that good reason being another Influentster Voxbox!

I was pretty stoked when I found out I was getting to review this particular Influenster item. The item being the Venus Embrace Sensitive Razor. I'm a girl so naturally razors are part of my every day life. I've mentioned before that I do not shave my legs but I do shave under my arms and *ehem* other places fairly regularly. *totes awks* The point is that as women we use razors a lot. So this item could not be more appreciated.

Friday Faves!

It's been a while since I came on here and shared my favourite things of the week. And truth be told I missed it. These are some of my favourite posts to write. On another note, look who is posting two days in a row! I feel like that deserves a standing ovation. Tumbleweeds be gone!

Ok on to my fave things of the week ...

Fave Moment

It has rained non stop all week here. I mean every single day morning to bedtime it has been raining. FOR DAYS. Its probably the rainiest rainy season I've experienced in a while. I know its not cold and snowy but it still sucks. So I'm reminiscing on my lovely weekend away in Tobago at my friend's bachelorette party.

Australia: Warner's Bay and Hunter Valley

I know I've been back from Australia almost a month now but I have tons of pics still to share (I was there for 4 weeks after all) and I'm going to try to share them all this week and next!

Disclaimer: This post has A LOT of photos. A lot. like a lot a lot...

Anyway, before I photo dump on you guys, I'll explain the pics. My uncle (mums big bro) lives in Australia and he's kind of the reason why I have a lot of family there, including my sister. Its also the reason my mum has been there like 8 times.... How did he get from the Caribbean to Australia? Well he went to medical school in Ireland and while studying medicine he met a lady there ... a nurse in fact. And well he married her, moved to Australia and started a life there. Several Aussie wives (yes wives) and kids later, and he's still there maintaining a successful practice.

He has two homes in Newcastle. One home is in Warner's Bay, where he has acres of land, about 6 horses and a dachshund that he ADORES. He also has a "weekend home" in the Hunter Valley (a beautiful place with several vineyards and golf courses .... and tons of kangaroos!!!!). My mum and I spent the first weekend we were in Australia hanging with her big bro in both of those places!

Enough of the explanation time for the photo dump ...

Bachelorette weekend things ...

Twice last week I left home at 6 am and didn't leave work till 6pm ... What a long week. I did manage to squeeze in some time with friends in between (I always do) but thank God for the weekend regardless. One of my dear friends and colleagues had her bachelorette weekend in Tobago this weekend. It was awesome and just what I needed.

We rented out a villa for two nights and three days and you can check it out here. Really though check out the pics!! It was a gorgeous villa and a great weekend. We ate. we drank and we were merry. Because my blog isn't public knowledge and because 10 of the 12 girls at the villa were attorneys I cant share many pics. I know ... booooo!!!

Night #1 was spent bar hopping and drinking. I should mention that on night #1 there was a little hiccup. I had to go to the police station because some wretched idiot hit my car rearview mirror (I took my car on a ferry to Tobago) and the glass fell off and broke. Not to worry ... two car loads of attorneys, one trip to the police station and one fully legal promissory note admitting liability and promising to compensate me in FULL for my mirror (drafted in 10 minutes - I have the greatest friends), signed and witnessed in the presence of the police and we were on our way to the bars ... I almost feel sorry for the dude. He didn't stand a bloody chance.

Night #2 was the actual bachy party ... strippers et al!

The tanks we wore on the night of the actual bachy party!

First off thank you sweet hunnies for your lovely words on my last post. Man I cant lie you guys made me cry. I really am touched!

But as sucky as this week was I have a lovely weekend to look forward to.

This evening I head off to Tobago for a bachelorette weekend (not mine ... le duh). Just in time. Just what the doc ordered. When I get back I will be relaxed and jump right back into it. I am already working on posts to schedule. I still have so much of Australia to share... even though I've been back over two weeks now and you guys are probs no longer interested! haha Also Ill be back to Friday faves next week!!

Thanks again guys ... now excuse me while I lay next to a pool drinking for the next two days!

Firsts and Lasts ...

I haven't posted a lot since I have returned and today is the reason why.

Have you ever contemplated firsts and lasts? Its a funny thing. The first time you experience something you know you are experiencing it, but you never know when the last time is.

Today is 11/11. Growing up 11/11 always meant something special to my family. It is my sister's birthday... She was once 11 on the 11th day of the 11th month ... It was pretty cool! November 11th 2013 was the last birthday I spent with her. But I didn't know it. (You can read here and here for that story... my sister passed away earlier this year from a kidney disease) November 11, 2014 ... well its the first birthday without her. And I'm very aware of it.

Australia: Newcastle

Guys ... I think Ive lost my blogging mojo. I am soooo sorry for not reading your posts in over a week, I have been swamped with going back to work and with my masters ... and lets not mention the severe case of jet lag that I suffered through. I do think that slowly but surely I am back. I just hope you guys stuck through the absence. I do miss you all!

Anyhoo ... on to Australia. I spent four glorious weeks there. Let me just warn you ... there will be several posts with several pictures. I have to detail everything from the random stuff with my sister and mum in Newcastle to my uncles home near the vineyards in the Hunter Valley to my cousins wedding and my week in Sydney .....

My sister lives in Newcastle which is about 2 hours from Sydney and so most of my trip was there. She is currently finishing up her PHD at University of Newcastle and so she took us on a driving tour of the University in the first week. We also roamed the gorgeous downtown Newcastle and went to a popular beach in Newcastle called Nobby's beach. (I actually did a real tour of Newcastle with my mum and that will be a post by itself!)

Book Review #5 - Wuthering Heights

Hey guys!! I know I said I was back ... but that was before I was hit with the most insane jetlag ever ... AND a brand new deadline to hand in an introduction to my masters thesis on Monday ... as in tomorrow. Yup so once again I have neglected to read blogs and write my own. Sigh. No worries though I think I am really back from Monday so yay me! I will definitely be posting my recap posts this week. I truly miss my blog and blogland. Funny how that happens.

Because my life was in a state of pure chaos this week, I missed book club day! No worries I'm posting my review today!

I'm back baby ...

Hey there blog ... Are you guys still there? Trust me I'd totally understand if you left but ...

Yup, after one week in the USA and four glorious weeks with my sister in Newcastle and Sydney Australia, I am back home. I fully had all intentions of blogging while away but man oh man was that ever hard. I had my niece, nephew and sister to love on and countless new experiences to bask in and my little ole' blog took a back seat. I'm sorry, I really am, but I needed to take the break and enjoy those around me.

Also, some of you may know that I came home a few days early. I planned to stay and bask in all the glory that is Fall in NYC but alas I had some business to attend to. I had a presentation for my masters and more importantly Monday (literally the day after I landed) I had a HUGE interview for the biggest firm in the Caribbean. I literally had to change my flight. I do regret not seeing some of my bloggy peeps though and Ill be back to NYC soon to make that up to you folks (I'm looking at you Alyssa and Kari). I'll update you guys as to the result of the interview ... but I'll say this, it was intense. Not sure about it at all.

Confessions

Hey guys! Greetings from Oz! This post is more of an update on me, because although there have been posts on the blog, I have been largely MIA (for good reason).

1. I'm still on vacation and loving it ... My cousins wedding is next weekend in Sydney and I cant wait to share that and other Aussie adventures with you guys. The problem? See i bought a new cam and now allll of my pics are on said fancy cam .... and while I have taken some pics off the memory cards and put them into folders etc ... its a MUCH longer process than snapping iPhone pictures and uploading them. And that is exactly why my last post was full of iPhone pics and I have not written any Aussie posts yet ... it happens .... I'll soon get to my recaps.

Norwood Mass travel recap!

Well look who's posting on her own blog again today!!!

I realize I just cannot recap my entire trip and so I'll just recap highlights. Like I said yesterday, I'm still in Australia and will be for another 2 weeks or so and I most certainly don't plan on boring you guys will 100 million travel posts ... so Ill stagger them. That said, today and tomorrow I have travel posts for you guys to at least show you what Ive been up to! First up? Norwood Massachussets.

This will be a quick recap because well ... you guys dont need a recap of the US now do you. So its more of an update. Yeah ... lets call it that.

I landed in JFK on 20th September. My uncle picked my mum and I up and we drove 5-ish hours, stopping twice (once in Brooklyn at a Caribbean market place and again in Connecticut for food) to Norwood, Mass. Why did we drive? Well because we always make that drive. Everytime we go to Mass (Boston or Norwood), we make the drive. In fact, my family also drives from Mass to Canada several times a year particularly in the summer for Caribana ... and we love it!

You have to start to be great!

Hey guys! Yup its me, you are not dreaming. And yes I am going against all I believe in and I'm posting on a Sunday (well its probably Saturday where you as I type this are but its Sunday here in Australia and I'm actually scheduling this post for for Sunday 12 am ATL standard time ... although Sunday is on its way out here.... mind twister right there.)

My girl Alyssa along with the very inspirational Tracy came up with this great link up and I just knew I had to link up.... even though it is most certainly not Tuesday!

So what am I training for? Well let me start with a little back story. Earlier this year I promised one of my best friend's Nadiya that I would run a race with her in September. A 5k. September has come and gone and I did not run said race. She did though, she always runs them. My sister is also a runner. And she currently runs 5k's, 10k's and half marathons. My deceased sister was also fit as a fiddle.

I do not however consider myself to be fit. And up until very recently I didn't think I 'qualified' to be a runner. I have boobs and I'm basically a little person!! So I made goals to run, goals I did try to fulfill but had no motivation to ... and because of that mindset its been a slow and painful process.

What I needed was not a new body with smaller boobs and longer legs to be a runner, I needed a change in mindset....

So with that change in mindset, I have set a new goal with Nadiya ... we are both running a 5k in January. Together. No excuses. And I'll share my progress here.

Guest Post: Recent Somethings!

Hi guys, once again I have a pretty lady on the blog. The last guest post. Next week you guys will be stuck with boring old me again, so count your lucky ducks you have this lovely lady to read today!! Shelby the floor is yours ...

Hi! I'm Shelby from Recent Somethings. While Kay is away playing in Australia in all its amazing-ness, a lot of us are stuck at home, bracing for cooler temperatures, and inevitably, dry skin. However, fear not, ladies. I've rounded up my favorite products (all under $15!) that will keep the dry skin long-gone come fall.

Well guys, I'm out of the US and in Aussie-land now! Once again while I'm gone, I have an awesome lady taking my place for the day. You know those times when you read a blog and you just click with the blogger instantly? Well that happened with me and Christina who blogs over at Sold out Arenas! She is funny and witty and insightful ... Oh and she has the cutest son! Enough of my babbling, take it away Christina.

I am so honored to be quest posting for Kay. Her and I are pretty much the same person, give or take about 10 inches in height and my lack of law knowledge. This is my first time guest posting and I could not be more honored. After all, Kay has been my inspiration more times then she will ever know. My blog is a complete mess and does not usually fit into any category. I make you laugh, I make you cry, I write poetry, I say nothing at all. Without further ado, I attempt to make you laugh while simultaneously provoking thought... (weirdo)

It is no secret that women have a more difficult life than that of men, (if men are reading this, my bad) it is pure science. From birth we are judged and judging one another based on things that really get you nowhere in life. I can remember all the way back to preschool when I first realized my life was going to be hard.

Little Sally Smartass and I were lined along the fence with the other kids, she looks at me as we are about to take off in a foot race and says "You are going to lose, you will never beat me." I did not say a word. Why was Sally being such a grade A dirt butt? Needless to say, I smoked Ms. Smartass and everyone else in the race. I have 5 brothers therefore I understand that words mean nothing, action gets ish done in any physical competition.

Book Review #4 - The Darkest Minds

Hey guys! Im popping in today briefly ... I have to say for all those leaving comments on my guest posters posts, thanks a bundle. Ill be back full time next week and I will get to your comments. Forgive me if I'm a little busy cuddling my niece and nephew and soaking up all things Australia. Also, I might have flown all the way to Australia to realize I have allergies and I may or may not be the sick tourist puffing on an inhaler for dear life ...

Anyway, today I have a review because ... book club ... and because Kari and I didn't do one for September on the last Thursday of the month as is supposed to be the case so we decided to pop one in.

Seriously, the girl can do a wicked contour. Just visit her blog and you'll see for yourself! Anyway enough of me babbling, over to you Deb!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Hi guys!! I'm Deborah and I blog over at DeborahYanni.

When Kay asked me to do a guest post for her I was immediately thrilled!! You see, this is the first guest post I've ever done and so I figured this was my chance to think of something really creative and witty to charm your socks off. Well, it didn't really work out that way. I mean, I do think I'm pretty witty and I can be really charming when I put my mind to it but that's besides the point. Writing a guest post is hard stuff.

So with a little help from Kay I decided to just be myself (whoever that is) and talk a little bit about what I love... MAKEUP!! That's right. Over at DeborahYanni I write about my obsession with all things beauty. So today I'll be talking to you all about my top 5 lipsticks for the fall season.

Guest Post: Kristen from See You In a Porridge!

Well guys, as you read this I am probably en route from Boston/LA to Aussie-land! I have another bloggy friend taking my place for the day. I happened upon Kristen's blog shortly after I started my own blog and she had me hook, line and sinker since then! She is one of my absolute faves and a genuine sweetheart. I mean that. Anyway who better to take over my blog on the day I head to Oz than Kristen ... she herself hails from the land down under! Take it away Kris!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Hi everyone! First I want to thank the lovely, gorgeous and generous Kay for having me at her place today, I'm Kristen and I blog about a whole lot of nothing over at See You In A PorridgeI am so jealous of Kay's awesome vacay, especially because one of the places she is going just happens to be the country I am from. So I thought I would share some 'must do's and do not's when going to Oz'.

1. Do the touristy stuff.

Heck, you're a tourist - do it! It's half the fun. I don't recommend climbing the harbour bridge because holy expensive and what do you really see from up there that you can't see from the ground? Plus you can take your cliche photos for free and they are just as fun. If you really want to do something, you can walk across the bridge for free (mind the traffic) or do the pylon lookout for $13.  The Bridge Climb is $150-$350.

Guest Post: The Kari Diaries

Hey guys!! I am still in Boston town before Australia and I have my sweet friend Kari posting for me today. I have so much in common with this girl its not even funny. Lawyer? check. Mediator? Check. Loves to read and write? Check and Check. Living in Manhattan? Ok ... so no check but damn the girl lives in one of the best cities in the world! Enough of me, Kari you take it from here...

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Oh hey, girl. I'm Kari, and I'm guest posting for our dear Kay while she travels around the globe like the socialite she is. I blog over at The Kari Diaries, where I post about books, weird but sometimes sweet stories that could only happen to me, and how to feel beautiful as well as other real life things. I'm really bad at introductions, so let's just pretend we're old friends and skip over all that, yes? Ok. Still here? Excellent.

Through the many conversations I've had with Kay, one thing has been confirmed: we both suffer from baby fever. Now I'm sure Kay would make an excellent mom, but me? I can think of quite a few reasons I probably shouldn't be given my own little ball of squish. If you're nursing a case of baby fever, you should probably evacuate immediately. Except please don't :)

Guest Post: Alyssagoesbang!

Well I'm away today on vacation and I have one of my fave bloggers, my friend Alyssa taking over my blog today. Man I love this girl. She is not only my friend, but a true fitness inspiration and the bonus? The girl is an editor of literature ... I mean ... #love.  If you don't know her yet, you should read this post then head over to her blog and check her out. I promise you wont be disappointed. Anyway on to the post:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I've gotta start this post off with the obligatory (but nonetheless sincere!) thank-you to my friend Kay for hosting me on this great little spot of hers while she's jetting around the globe — and to my neck of the woods, meaning we'll finally be meeting face-to-face in just a few short weeks! Score! Anyway, in case you and I haven't met yet, my name is Alyssa and I blog, make lists, and embarrass myself over at alyssagoesbang. (Come on over whenever, the door's always open!)

Kay and I have become pals over the past couple of months and have a ton in common, which has made our friendship so much sweeter. But there is one thing that is actually a really big problem in this relationship.

Kay hates American football. And I absolutely love it.

So now that I've hijacked been invited to share a post on her blog, I figure this is the perfect chance to bring Kay over to the Blue side — Oh yeah, I'm a New York Giants fan. (No, I don't want to talk about how this season's going. Let's just pretend it's still preseason, k?)

Why Kay Should Really Give American Football Another Try

Off to ..

By the time you are reading this I'll be off on my journey across the world to see my sister in Australia. This post is actually scheduled to publish as my flight takes off.

I may not have mentioned this before but my mum's brother is also a doctor in Australia and his daughter is getting married while I'm there. So many of my cousins from all around the world will be flying in for that wedding and I'm kinda excited about it! It isn't the main reason I'm going (this trip was planned before I even knew she would be getting married in October) but it sure is a perk. En route to Oz and on the way back Ill be spending a few days in the good old U.S.A ...

Don't worry, not all of my posts will be about travel related while I'm gone, I don't want to bore or lose any of you. So ill still show up with as my usual self with my usual posts. But for the first two weeks, I plan to relax and so I have some lovely ladies guest posting for me starting this very Monday! Can a ask a teensy favour? Can you guys show them some love for helping a sister out while she travels?

Packing for a long trip: Luggage and general tips

Ok so before I begin this post. I have a confession. I have not packed yet. I have not even opened a suitcase. But I do have a plan. The plan is NOT to overpack.

I love to travel but I'm not a fan of airports, nor am I fan of lugging around 5 bags of luggage through an airport. I plan to pack a carry on, a large hand bag and one large suitcase. A month will fit in those three items if my life depended on it!

I pack very differently if I'm hopping over to another Caribbean island or a short weekend trip than I would for a long trip. I am no expert by any means, but I've been on long trips to India and Europe before and I find that it helps to make a list of thngs that you will need. Particularly in my case this time around. Why? I will be travelling out from the rainy season in my country to the Fall in the Us, to Spring in Australia. Count it, that's three seasons. Thankfully, the clothes for Fall and Spring are not that far apart that I cannot improvise. So here are some things I plan to back.
This will generally be the bulk of the packing items. I find that if you find clothes that can mix and match you don't have to pack that much. This is not that difficult for me as I generally wear black or sombre colours so everything matches anyway. Also I plan to shop while abroad so I generally won't be packing too much clothing at the very beginning anyway. My tip would be to plan for the seasons you will be travelling into. I generally wear shorts at home but that wont fly in the Fall (US) or Spring (Aus). So what general items will I be packing?
Pants (jeans, soft)
Leggings
Tops (long sleeve and tank)
Sweaters
Skirts
Dresses (casual, day)
Cardigans

Dude where are my keys?

It's Wednesday already!! It's been soooo long since I confessed! I really only have one confession / story to tell today so lets jump right into it.
Last week was the beginning of my official vacation even though I was technically still working. I can't remember what day it was, but I was getting ready to go have lunch with my friend Ali at around 1 pm before I had to head to class at 5. I should mention that it was a last minute plan. We literally decided to get lunch and I jumped up to get ready. I got dressed, was looking cute, did the whole makeup shebang, phoned Ali to let her know I would be there in 5 minutes and then after once last check in the old mirror, I walked towards the door to pick up the carkeys and head out. I leave the keys to my car and the current purse in use in ONE place always.

My keys were not in said place...

They were not in my purse either ....

Cue this reaction ...

Hey its ok - Vol #2

I almost published this post without an introduction ha!

I've done a post like this before, it's patterned after a regular series in Glamour magazine called 'Hey its ok'. Again, the concept ain't mine! I have always loved that series (just like the confessions in Cosmo) and so here I am today with another one. Clearly I love spilling my dirty laundry all over the blog ... Sorry mum.

... to admit that you're too busy to blog as much as you would like to sometimes. Many of you may not even know this because I don't blog about it very often but I tutor at a University, am a full time lawyer, I'm currently in the second (and final year) of my masters programme, I'm writing a book ... and I'm taking a month off all these to travel half fully across the world to see my wonderful seeester and my nephew, niece and bro-in-law. I had a lot of stuff to get done before I leave. And that's ok, Ill have loads of time while on vacay to write and read all the blogs!

Packing for a long Travel: Makeup

So I went AWOL from the blog again, and from bloglovin'. I had some last minute work to tie up before I leave and it just could not be helped. As I type this on Sunday, I plan to get up to speed on all the happening in the blog world. One day at a time, I suppose. Fact is, I love blogging and I love reading blogs, but that box of legal files staring at me from the corner of my eye. It pays the bills. So sometimes blogging has to take a back seat.

But yay for this blog post that I have been planning for a while. I apologize in advance, I have a couple travel posts planned for this week ahead of my big trip. Today I'm talking packing make-up for travel! I'm taking a long trip, Ill be gone (from home, not the blog) for a month! Yes a whole month!!! (I didn't take any vacation during my three year contract, I only travelled on long weekends, and so I was entitled to the bulk of my vacation at the end of my contract, before my new contract begins.... I know you guys are curious! haha). The makeup Ill be carrying is already packed up, although nothing else is, so here's what Ill be taking.

I found a pretty sizable maekup bag that I just had to purchase. Its actually not that big, but I managed to stuff all I would need for a month inside of it. I may have even impressed myself by how much I was able to pack.

Things I'd struggle to live without.

The week just started and its already Tuesday. And we are NINE days into September!! My Birthday just ended! How did that happen? Anyway on Sunday night, I decided to catch up on a new show on FOX called Utopia. And I actually liked it.

Per the website for the show, the idea behind the show is this "14 pioneering Americans wave goodbye to the lives they’ve known, move to a remote location, and set out to create a society from scratch. They’ve got limited supplies, wildly diverse backgrounds, and zero bathrooms."  Crazy right?

Anyway on Sunday's episode all the "Utopians" were tasked to put some of their personal items into one huge crate ... personal items to take to with them as they create their new society. I realized I could not do this show because there are some things I'd struggle to live without. Some time ago, I was contacted by Man Crates to do a post about what "do or die items" I would put in a survival kit. Man Crates is a super trendy new 'gifts for men' company and they ship gifts for the men in your lives in crates! While watching Utopia, I decided this was the perfect opportunity to write this post.

London memories

If I had to live anywhere else in the world it would be either New York City or London town. I love London and I miss it. I can't believe that it's been since 2011 since I've last seen it. I don't usually post on a Sunday, but I woke up this morning and decided to post about London for two reasons, my mum just informed me that we will be taking a trip to England (her brother lives in Essex) and Europe next year and because I wish I was passing through London to get to Australia. I just love the place.

In 2011 when I last visited, it was winter (-5 degrees on the warmest day - aka freakin cold for a Caribbean girl), so the pics are kind of dreary but I'm posting them anyway. Beware of the photo overload! Here are some not so typical things that I love about London ...

Book Review #3 - Big Little Lies (Liane Moriarty)

Well it's that time of the month. No not that time (where is your mind), I'm talking about book review time.  its the third month for the book review with Kari and I, although things are a little different this month. We are reviewing August's book in the first week of the Spetember because we had to give Shelby, who won the giveaway, a chance to receive and read her book. I do love that its an Australian author this month since Ill be there soon! (yes I keep talking about Australia ... I'm excited so bear with me.)

Ill be honest though, this isn't my best review ... Keep reading to see why.
