How I use my 2015/2016 Horizontal Erin Condren Life Planner

Whelp its Monday guys, but this week it doesn't matter because every day is the weekend for me this week since its my BIRTHDAY week!!! Wednesday is the big day and I'm finally excited about it.

Anyhoo, Birthday aside, I'm way too excited about this post because #plannerobsessed. If you don't like planner posts, don't want to read about my Erin Condren Life Planner or simply don't want to get sucked into the planner vortex (and I totally understand if you don't), back slowly away because there's about to be an explosion of planner-ness happening in 3... 2... 1....

Erin Condren Horizontal Life Planner

UPDATE - I'm currently in a Kikki K planner. Check out how I set it up in this post.

A few weeks ago I shared my 2015/2016 Horizontal Erin Condren Life Planner. I should mention that since that post, I've received my customized cover, compensation for it being late and for a slight deformity on the cover (a complete 360 in customer service). I've been using the planner since July so I thought I'd update on how exactly I use it. I don't overdecorate my planner because I usually have it on my desk at work so I cant have it toooo cutesy. That said, I do use stickers here and there but they are all functional. My assistant has seen this planner on my desk hundreds of times and hasn't asked if I'm crazy yet so I'm pretty sure I'm all good.

I use this planner for everything because I simply won't keep up with more than one planner. So, I use it for work, blog, life, writing and faith stuff. Literally everything goes in here. Lets get on it with ...

Monthly view:
I plan blog posts on my monthly view. I use Erin Condren customizable stickers, an extra that I paid for, to plan posts and I use the sidebar for planning goals that I don't stick to. For those wondering the goal that's blocked off is a post I keep meaning to write and I don't want to give it away. I use sticky notes to denote posts I think I may draft for a particular day. The sticky notes work because I never stick to a plan and I can remove them and place them elsewhere if the post doesn't get drafted.

Weekly view:
For the weekly view, I plan my days and things I need to get done each day, work wise and likewise. I use functional stickers on the weekly view as well. I usually add a quote sticker, my hydrate stickers  (because I try to track my water) and the weekend stickers. On the sidebar I try to track what I eat and  my exercise (clearly the N/A means this month was a fail exercise wise - le sigh). I also use coil clips if I need to attach something inside the planner. This is August so far:

Notes section:
For my notes section,  I have a page for my writing (not pictured) and a page for jottings downs - best way I can put it - both private neither can be pictured but here's what the notes section looks like anyway!

Budget section:
At the end of the notes pages there is a graph page that I use for budgeting. On the first graph page I glued on a budget sheet that I created myself in Excel.

**Both the notes section and budget are delineated by the ribbon thingies.

The keep it together folder:
There is a keep it together folder at the back of all Erin Condren Life Planners. At the front of the folder I keep paper, bills and random things and at the back I keep stickers.

The Pouch:
The pouch at the back is my catch all - sometimes I keep stickers, other times I keep papers and random things...

Notepad:
Though this makes the planner just a tad bulky, I've added the personalized notebook at the back  of the planner - because one cannot have too many notebooks. There are two adhesive blocks at the back to attach it to the covers.

Finally, recently I ordered an extra cover and some coil clips to clip more random stuff into the planner because why not. Here's the extra cover:

And there you have it, how I use my horizontal Erin Condren Life Planner - in pictures. Its not too cutesy, still somewhat professional (or not at all). Whetever it is, it works for me. One more picture just because I haven't bombarded you with enough photos in this one post:

  1. i save this post for last to read so i can absorb and study every word without the distractions of the rest of the bloggers i read. even though i don't have my planner yet (hurry up, canada post!!), i already have my "unboxing" post ready along with how i use/plan to use my planner LOL. talk about planner loser.

first thing's first - this post = LOVE. i'm the same as you - i use sticky notes to avoid wasting precious planner space and i love the pockets since i usually cram in bills or other things that need to be done between the pages of my current planner (that does not have a pocket #rage).

that clear plastic pocket add on is a great idea! i wonder if i can get one similar for my plum planner.

    1. I was going to leave a sassy post about you being a bit jelly over Kay's planner being used in all its glory, but I digress. Yours is going to be bawling out in Washi tape galore very soon, too! ;)

  2. ^Kathy is the cutest!

OK, next Friday I'm going to blog about cheese. Just giving you the heads up 😉

I'm really wishing I had just paid the $5 for the remaining months of 2015. I know have to wait like a child until January. #impatient On the plus side, more time to find/buy stickers. I also need an elastic band bit I'm not paying $7 for a headband.

The planner world was new to them.. .and I think I started something bad!! haha I have been using the free trial of the passion planner in a binder that I am customizing! I think I am going to blog about it, because getting my life together this past week has been AMAZING! :) I love how you use yours, another girl in our office uses Erin Condren too! :) XO -Alexandra

  6. I have been thinking of getting one of these planners and I think I might now after reading your post. So very helpful. I keep my planner on my desk at work and I too cannot have anything to cutesy. It's bad enough that my office has alot of pink in it. Haha but it's not over the top.

  7. I have been usinfg an EC planner for just pver a year and I love it. I use it much the same way you do although you seem a bit more organized and better about writing things down. I like the horizontal, may have to try that way next! Great post!

  9. I LOVE my horizontal EC planner. The vertical one was cool too but the horizontal is so much more my jam. You seem to really use yours to its fullest potential, which is amazing!

  12. Hi Kay, it's nice to 'meet' you. I really like your planner and I love the tutorial you provided on how you use it. No, I've actually never used a planner, but you've really inspired me to use one. I can always use a little more organization in my life. I'm glad I stumbled across your blog today. I really enjoyed the visit... :)

  13. Love it! I love planner posts. Seeing the inside how you actually use it is the best.
I agree that it's work appropriate. I can't use the cutesy stickers or bright colors either, who would take you seriously as a lawyer? I know it's more boring, but hey... that's the definition of lawyer.

  14. I love planners! I wish I was in the budget for a nice one like this but I got mine for five bucks at TJ Maxx and it works. It's not nearly as fancy and I don't have pretty stickers but since I work from home and blogging is pretty much my other main job is not so bad!

  15. I think I need to just realize that a blog + personal planner is plain silly and revamp by combining into a shiny new one. Thanks for helping me spend my money, you wise planner, you! ;)

  16. I've never been a huge planner person. I forget that I have it and never use it. I think I will try it out again. I may have to head to TJ Maxx and check it out. Hopefully this planner will help me out. But if not, I guess a planner isn't for everyone. But girl you've mastered it :).

    1. A planner isnt for everyone but I legit need one. Especially for work stuff - yes we use outlook as well but I need to look at a to do list and know abc needs to get done STAT. Just the way my brain works.

  17. It looks like you really get your money's worth out of this. Your pages are FILLED UP! I really want one of these fancy planners, but I have a bad track record with planners. I use them for the first 3-4 months that I have them..and then I sort of quit using them all together and it makes me so sad when 5 or 6 months roll around and I see it blank....laying on the floor of my guest room all dusty. LOL!

    Happy Birthday Week!!!!!

  18. Nice!

    Happy birthday week.

  28. Love it! I'm already in the process of creating my next planner (another DIY because I'm broke like that) so I'll be sure to take some tips from your planner layout to incorporate. Already stocked up on washi tape, sticky notes and stickers, but I really like the hydration stickers! Those I'd buy!
