BARBADOS!!

In case I haven't mentioned it enough already - I know, I know, I have - I'm heading to Barbados for 5 days and 4 nights. You would think being from the Caribbean that I would really care about going to another Caribbean island right? Wrong. Its just as exciting.

Anyway, I leave later today and I can't wait. I plan to fully immerse myself into relaxation and I'll be sure to take lots and lots of pics.

Friday Favourites

I don't typically wish weeks away. Life is way too short for that. Having said that, this is one week that I'm not too sad to see go away. It's been a super busy and slightly stressful one and if I'm really honest, I'm just really ready for a vacation. I haven't had a real vacation since I went to Australia in October 2014. That's just too long.

Anyway, I haven't done one of these posts in months. Literally. So I'm jumping in with some faves.

The Perfect at home date night with Uncommon Goods

date night ideas

OC has been in my life for some time now. Its actually been a year - I was just quiet about it for a while. If we're really technical about the whole thing, I wasn't really quiet was I - I was absent. I digress...

Anyway, we're both busy professionals (me an attorney and him an auditor at an accounting firm) and not always in the mood to cook something special or to go out for a fancy dinner. If I'm honest, I'm rarely in the mood to get all the way dressed up just to go eat - it has to be a special occasion. I'm also particularly financially conscious these days, because bills. And because I do plan on buying a home at some point in the not too distant future.

That means 'date night' sometimes equals whatever is in the fridge and a movie or TV show. Again, being honest, more often than not its going to be a show because frankly shows are shorter  and #webetired #andold.

Recent Happenings ...

Good gosh golly I've been gone for a bit and half. It's August, my birth month, so I figured blogging had to happen since I'll be celebrating all month long.

Life's been full and busy and good. Really good. Quite frankly, while I missed this space, I just couldn't bring myself to blog. That's about as blunt as it gets. I have no excuses. Life was happening and I was along for the ride. Blogging wasn't.

Anyhoo, today I'm here  so how about a catch me up aka photo dump. Photos are the best way to describe anything right? So here's what I've been up to...

Literary Ladies Book Club: Exposure to a Billionaire

Happy Tuesday guys!

It's Book Club Day - the day we review our book of the month. Welp, turns out I never received my book so I don't have any review for today. So, Instead Ill just go ahead and let you guys link up with my fellow lovely ladies (Kristen and Kari) over on their pages.

I promise if or when I receive it, Ill post my review.

Exposure to a Billionaire

My Bloggy friend wrote a book - and she can write!

Hi guys!

One thing I have always loved about blogging and reading other bloggers was the fact that we are all so creative in our own ways. So many of my blogger friends have written books or they are in the process of writing them (myself included).

Enter my friend Karen who blogs over at RunWright. She just recently published her book of short stories entitled It's Complicated.

Natural Anti-aging skin care solutions

Hi guys!!

I was recently contacted to do a post on natural anti-aging skin care solutions. I don't know about you guys but I jumped right on it because firstly, I wanted to get the solutions myself and secondly, its something I really wanted to share. I wouldn't post something I didn't actually think would be helpful. And really ... who wouldn't want to find natural ways to look younger?

Lately ...

Well I'm a dummy! I thought my girl Kristen's 'what's new with you' linkup happened tomorrow instead of last Thursday - so I missed it. I planned to link up of course so although it's confessions day, let's just pretend it's last Thursday ;)

That paragraph was a doozy ...

My point is - better late than never. Always great to have a 'lately' post right? I'm nosy so I love them!

Book Review: The love that split the world

I've actually wanted to read The love that split the world since it came out earlier this year. It's not my typical read but something drew me to the synopsis.

So when Kari and Kris recommended it as the book for this month I was game. Here are my thoughts:

How I got Pinterest to work for me (without trying)

So let me start off this post by saying I'm no expert blogger (clearly) and I don't assume to know any more about blogging than you do. I also will never presume that what worked for me will work for you. That said, I looked at my Pinterest news feed the other day and noticed that one of my posts has been pinned almost 300 times and some other posts, (like this one, this one and this one), are pinned pretty frequently. While they are by no means 'viral' posts, I think those are pretty good stats for a teensy tiny blog like my own.

The best part is that I honestly wasn't trying.

So I thought why not tell you what worked for me - or what I did on those posts that I didn't do on other posts.

Mini Haul: Makeup and Beauty

Happy Monday guys!

This weekend was a good one. I did work, hung out with OC after he worked on Saturday (he's an auditor at a 'Big Four' accounting firm and works as much or more than I do), visited the parents on Sunday and had date night Sunday night. There are no photos to prove any of this occurred. Not one. Ha!

Anyway, my neighbour and friend Tisha recently scored some beauty items for me on her trip to NYC. I had to share them. They've been items I wanted for some time.

*I apologize for the poor quality of photos

Life Lately

Happy Thursday guys! I think this might be the first time that I missed an entire month on my blog. Did you miss me? No? You know what? I don't blame you. I hate flaky people as well. It's actually a pet peeve.

Anyway, in the event that you do have a minute to hear me out - here's 'whats new with me' lately (categorized of course because #TypeA ):

PS - No credit can be taken for this perfection of a photo. I paid for a shutterstock subscription a while back and got this stock photo on there... its to cute not to use!

Literary Ladies Book Review: Year of Yes

Hey guys!

Long time no see - or hear - or blog. I think I just need to accept that life is busy and while my blog isn't going anywhere (and neither am I), in this busy (and good) season it's just taken more of a back seat. I hope to have that change soon though, not the "good" part but the "back seat" part.

That said .... The book of month for Literary Ladies was a good one and I'm here to review it

How pretty is that picture?! I saw it on Pinterest this week and couldn't resist posting it. I wish I knew where it was originally from so I could link it.

Anyway ... although I've already posted more in this one month than I have in any one month since last August (yay me), I thought I'd blog today. I have not done one of these posts since October of last year!! Crazy! These have always been some of my favourite posts to draft so I'm happy to be back sharing my faves!

Valentine's Day gift guide {for the practical girl}

Hey guys, I blinked and here we are in the middle of February with Valentines Day staring us in the face. I figured that this year I should do a gift guide - for both those single girls getting themselves something (I've done it), or those coupled up / married - really doesn't matter.

I'd like to think that I am a very practical human being especially when it comes to money being spent by me OR on me. What I mean is, I 'd prefer to own things that I will actually use. Valentine's Day therefore has always been a struggle. Aside from the whole "love should be shown everyday" thing, I just think gifts for this holiday are sometimes ... impractical? Now don't get me wrong here, there is a place for chocolate covered strawberries and flowers and teddies - We all love them - but here are some things I think a practical girl would also like ...

The 6 Best things about Trinidad Carnival!

It's Monday guys and I have today and tomorrow off work for Carnival! As many of you know I'm proudly from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean and we have one of the biggest, if not the biggest Carnival in the world (google the word Carnival - just do it). It draws celebs from all over and the entire country shuts down for two days.

I wasn't going to post today since its Carnival Monday here, but as I sat over the weekend thinking about what to post this week, I realized I couldn't let the week pass by without shouting it out for Carnival.

I'll be short and sweet today ...

Around the Web: Vol #1

I have a love/hate relationship with the internet. One of my favourite things to do, beside reading blogs of course, is just randomly browsing the web whenever I get the chance i.e before work, on an evening after work and even during my lunch hour. The hate part? Where the heck does the time go? I can literally spend hours just internet-ing (not a word). Naturally, I've decided to start documenting my favourite things from around the web. This probably wont be every week but I'll try to keep up with it!

These posts may not be for everyone, and as Sunday posts go they may not get much attention. Honestly, who has time to click through all the thing I liked all week?! Still, I really think I'd enjoy looking back at the things I browsed or that caught my attention over the year.

So here goes ...

What's new with me? - Boy, Booze and Bronchitis

These months are completely flying by!! Its the 4th of freaking February already!

Its my first week back on the blog in forever and I almost gave up on posting for the rest of the week. Almost. Why? Because Bronchitis sucks. Its sucks major lollipops - but more on that later. Sick or not though, I couldn't miss the first edition of my girl Kristen's super cute linky party! Nopes.

What's New With You

So what is new with me? Lots and "not lots" I guess. I figured since Kristen and Gretchen took the time to create such an awesome concept, I might as well take the opportunity to write a post rambling about what I've been up since I last disappeared.

Literary Ladies Book Review: Secret Sisters

Happy Tuesday guys!! Two posts in a row around these parts deserves an emoji clap. At least. I'll wait. Nothing?

Ok ... Its the first Tuesday of the month though, and that means its the Literary Ladies Book Club Day!

Secret Sisters Review

About me ... Lets try this again!

Happy Monday guys. Its February.

Since there are some new faces around these parts, I thought that I'd share some random tidbits about me ... again. I've also heard from the blog Gods that an "about me" post is a really good segue into posting again after an unofficial really really long bloggy break. Sidenote: If you want to know what I was up to when I was gone just let me know and I'll do a post about it ...

I got these questions from a post that Briane did many months ago and I'm just getting around to answering them. If you've been around this blog long enough you know that I love these question / answer type blogs anyway so here goes ....

Happy New Year!!! And January's Book Club: Strong looks better naked

Happy New Year Guys!!! It's 2016!

Gosh I have abandoned my blog, or at least from the outside it must look like it. From the inside, its still dear to my heart. I had planned to rock in yesterday with a New Years post but when I sat to draft it on Sunday night, I got a call that my friends mum had passed away ... not the best start to the New Year. Still, I do want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and let you know that one of my goals not just for 2016 but in general (I dont make resolutions) is to have this blog up and running again.

Alrighty ... on to Book Club!
