What are you looking for?

Hi, I'm Krystal, but around here I'm known as Kay.

I’m an attorney, a wanna-be runner (who has only entered 3 races), a hopeful writer (one day I plan to finish the book I’ve been writing for years – and I will), a traveler, a wearer of black and a comedian (at least in my head)

I post about travel, food, books, beauty, nights out, days in and my crazy Caribbean Life (oh ... I forgot to mention, I’m from the Caribbean – Trinidad and Tobago in fact). I also post about my interracial, intercultural, beautiful relationship with my Romanian husband Danny. Our wedding was in the Caribbean and remains one of the best days of my life. Not to worry, we often visit Romania though to see family. You can check out our trips to Romania here.

We love the beach

We live with our calico tabby rescue cat Chanel.  We adopted her at 6 weeks old and she is the cutest, most diva cat that ever did live.

... so diva that she has her own Instagram page. We'd love you to follow her. If you do, say hi!

I started this blog in 2014, which has to date been the worst full year of my life. It was terrible from the word “go” in January until the very end of December. There were no “get out of jail free” cards and certainly no “chance” cards handed to me in 2014.

The story? I started the blog when my beautiful sister Kerry was ill. Sadly, in March 2014, heaven became a more beautiful place and I gained an angel. Her passing wrecked me in ways I cannot explain and she took with her a piece of my heart. Though I don’t speak about her a lot on my blog – I get too emotional – I want to be clear ... she is the sole reason it exists. At the time, I needed a place to exhale and so I turned to the one thing that I have always used as an escape – writing. And this blog was born.

The truth is I lost a lot of things and more than one person in 2014, but gained a whole new perspective on life. I learned a lot about people, I learned a lot about myself and I learned a lot about life.

Thankfully, these days life is a bit brighter, my laugh is a bit heartier and my heart is much fuller than it was then. If I've learned nothing else, I've learned that life is too short not to be enjoyed and not to do the things you truly want to do.

I do hope you stick around for a bit - grab a glass of bubbly, wine, Scotch or Hennessy (my drinks of choice), read, laugh, and enjoy The Kay Times.
