One thing I have always loved about blogging and reading other bloggers was the fact that we are all so creative in our own ways. So many of my blogger friends have written books or they are in the process of writing them (myself included).
Enter my friend Karen who blogs over at RunWright. She just recently published her book of short stories entitled It’s Complicated.
I plan to do a full review of this book, although I have not told her yet (Karen – now you know) but I can vouch for her writing.
See, she was gracious enough to let me read one of her short stories “The Unwilling Vegetarian” and guys, it was a hoot!
I would never come on my blog and vouch for something I didn’t like to read, as you all know from my several Literary Ladies reviews – if I don’t like something I say it. But this short story was equal parts riveting, hilarious, romantic and quirky.
The Unwilling Vegetarian told the story of the mostly meatless (his words – but shh they’re a secret – he’s a vegetarian) protagonist Juan, who was so well developed in the 39 pages that was this story that you would swear it was an entire novel. In this short tale, you get to know Juan intimately as he explores new love while attempting to exit his old love story. You get to see his struggle in adapting to the pressure (that he placed on himself mind you) to become vegetarian – vegan even. A struggle that Mr. mostly meatless doesn’t necessarily win.
The story is as complex as it is effortless.
If all the stories in Karen’s “It’s Complicated” are like The Unwilling Vegetarian, whelp … I’m sold. And you would be too.
