Happy Independence to those in the US!! Hope you enjoy your holiday. I probably picked the worst possible date to post a healthy drink but here I am posting the most delicious Chocolate blueberry protein shake.
I might have mentioned that I put on a huge amount of weight in the last year making me delightfully plump at best. At. best.
With the exception of this past weekend, for the last few weeks I’ve been following a Keto friendly lifestyle (low-carb, high fat, medium protein) and its been working for me so far. Theres only one problem – I always struggle to eat Keto friendly breakfasts or any breakfast really. I just prefer shakes in the morning. I’ll post more about my Keto journey later on but today I want to post my favourite shake. Its a Chocolate Blueberry Protein shake and its what I drink basically every morning. It is delicious!!! Now, the Chocolate Blueberry protein shake is not a Keto shake, in that it can be adapted for any diet or healthy lifestyle, I just happen to be doing Keto.
Full disclosure, this shake is inspired by a recipe from a book my sister sent me years ago. At the time, I’d printed out the recipe. Unfortunately, I cant remember the name of the book, otherwise I’d credit the original chef.
That said, over time I have adapted the recipe to suit my preferences and I think its pretty perfect.
What you need:
One serving of plain or vanilla whey protein powder (I interchange depending on mood, with vanilla it tastes like ice-cream).
1/3 cup canned full fat coconut milk
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup blueberries (I use frozen because #Caribbean)
1 tablespoon flaxseed, ground flax or chia seeds
1 tablespoon cashews or walnuts
2 teaspoons stevia (use on if you use vanilla protein powder or it will be really sweet)
4 ice cubes
What you do:
Put all ingredients in a blender or Magic Bullet. Blend and enjoy.
Pretty simple and pretty delicious.
