First of all Happy Fourth of July!! It s a pretty normal day for us here but I’m taking a drink and eating all the good food vicariously through you all.
Its been a while since Ive done one of these and since life has been beautifully busy I figure I should update you guys on whats been happening around these Caribbean parts.
The last time I did one of these posts I mentioned that we were under contract for a house. We ran into some issues with the closing (on the seller’s side) but we finally have the keys and are knee deep in the home reno process. This is simultaneously the most fun and stressful part of the whole experience. The townhouse is just under 20 years old and very clearly hadn’t been updated in as much time… so lets just say it needed some love. We hired my mum’s friend who is a contractor and decided to gut a whole bathroom, paint the entire house, upgrade the kitchen (paint, countertops, backsplash, new cabinet doors and all new appliances) and change out just about every outdated light fixture in the house. There were other minor upgrades but those are the more major things. Its been an expensive project (lol. understatement.) but the progress is really mind blowing – I cant wait to share photos. I think in about two weeks we should be in!
Because of the house reno, our weekends have been FULL of running around, buying furniture, checking out the house, and just errands in general. Im unashamedly a micro manager and so yes, Im choosing everything and making myself very involved. Its fun though.
I should mention that we have not packed yet. We move out in two weeks and not one box has been packed. We plan to tackle the packing this weekend but honestly, we have more errands that need to be taken care of, so we’ll see I guess.
In other news, work has been good. Ive been at my new job almost a year now and I’m still loving it. Yesterday I took a flight out to do some business in Tobago (our sister island that’s a 20 minute flight away). We have an office there, but it was the first time I had to work out of it – when it comes to Tobago, you will get no arguments from me if you ask me to go. Its beautiful. I was back in Trinidad by 4:30 pm though so I was really only there for a few hours. Still it was a cool experience and I cant say enough how much I love what I do.
Ive also been writing again. Well, I was writing again until my Macbook died last weekend (its always something). In any event I genuinely want to finish my first book this year. Whether it does well or not I don’t even care but its a goal I really actually want to reach this year. I know Ive been saying this for years (basically since before I even started the blog in 2014) but its the furthest Ive ever gotten in my writing to I’m hopeful.
On the travel front, I don’t think we’ll be taking any major trips until the end of the year when we’ll head to Europe and I actually don’t mind. I think I need some stability for a little bit. I need to get into the house and just sit and relax and enjoy it for a while. I don’t even know if it makes sense but I need to not have a major upheaval or deadline coming up for a while … I crave calm.
Anyway, that’s my update for today.
Im linking up with sweet Kristen for Whats new with you.
